Meet the Coaching Staff

 

Arlington Wrestling is proud to be led by a highly accomplished group of coaches. Read the biographies below to learn more about our coaches.

Jonathan Simpson

Head Coach

Coach Simpson has been involved in wrestling in the Shelby County area for more than 30 years as a competitor, coach and administrator. Coach Simpson competed for CBHS, where he was a state medalist. While in high school he competed on several all-star teams as well as overseas. He started coaching on the youth level with Mid-South Wrestling Club before moving on to working with high school athletes in the club. Coach Simpson served as the Head Assistant Coach at Memphis University School from 1997-2002, after leaving he then served in the same capacity at Germantown High School from 2002-2013. Coach Simpson has also served on the coaching staff for several Team Tennessee National Junior Duals teams. He took over the Arlington Wrestling program in 2014 to present, during that time the team has won 10 Region Titles (5 Dual and 5 Individual Team), numerous individual state qualifiers, 12 state medalists, 2 state champions and counting! "The boosters and parents have been very welcoming since my arrival and have put in a lot of hard work to help make the program very successful. I encourage everyone to come out and check out and support Arlington Wrestling and it is my hope to continue to produce teams and young men that the community can be proud of. Andrew Sossaman

Assistant Wrestling Coach

Coach Sossaman began wrestling at age eleven for Bolton high school's wildcat youth program. After youth wrestling, he went on to compete at Arlington for four seasons under Coach Israel Cordero. While competing at AHS, his accomplishments include: varsity wrestler on the Tigers' 2007-08 Regional Duals Championship team, two-time TSSAA State Individual qualifier, three-time Blackhorse Inv. placer, and region champion at 130 lb. in 2009. Coach Sossaman started his coaching career with the Tigers right after graduating with a BA in English literature and has been named the Region 8 Assistant Coach of the Year two times since joining the staff in 2013-14.
